The Fence

some argue against the fence as though it were a bad thing

as though that which were kept out should be allowed inside

as though its removal would cause no harm to those within

as though the barrier were of our own will and manufacture

yet wolves will remain wolves

whether within the fold or out

ravenous, sheep-like wolves despise the sheepfold's fence

the Master made it not for the wolves but for their ravagings

placed so His sheep could live and grow in peace and safety

not just those already safe, but also those the Master seeks

by the Master's amazing grace
