(after “Invictus,” by William Earnest Henley)

..for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost…

Out of the night that covered me,

black as the pit of Hell's vast hole,

I thank the one true God that He

has conquered Death and freed my soul.

Within fell clutch of God’s just wrath,

I wept; in fearful torment fled.

Yet He pursued me, took my path;

my head is bowed to He Who bled!

Beyond this place of pain and tears

loomed once the horror of the shade;

but God is guardian of the years,

and death shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait His gate,

how charged with punishments His scroll.

He is the Master of my fate;

He is the Saviour of my soul.
