..for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost...

Out of the night that covered me,

black as the pit of Hell's vast hole,

I thank the only God to be,

for His redemption of my soul.

In the fell clutch of God’s just wrath,

I wept; in fearful torment fled.

Yet He pursued and took my path;

my head is bowed to He Who bled!

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

loomed death and horror of the shade;

but God stands guardian of the years,

their end shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait His gate,

how charged with punishments His scroll.

He is the Master of my fate;

He is the Captain of my soul.
